Do I have to have AN exam first before I see THE hygienist?

It is not necessary; we recommend our ‘Dental Hygiene and Exam Appointment’ a clean and thorough exam carried out during one appointment. However, if you have not seen a hygienist for more than six months, we recommend our ‘Dental Hygiene and Exam Appointment’ – a clean and through exam carried out during one appointment

Can I have hygiene, filling while pregnant?

It is recommended to have regular hygiene visits during pregnancy as the hormonal changes taking place during this time may result in changes in your gums. Tooth sensitivity develops when the enamel providing coating to the inner part of the tooth is lost. The need to have fillings during pregnancy is assessed individually during examination.

Why are the teeth sensitive during menopause?

Significant changes in women’s hormones during perimenopause and menopause, make you more susceptible to conditions affecting your oral health, such as dry mouth, gum recession, tooth pain, and more. Tooth sensitivity develops when the enamel providing coating to inner part of the tooth is lost. This can lead to pain and discomfort when you have cold, hot, or acidic foods.

Can peri menopause cause gum disease?

Decreasing levels of oestrogen and the significant changes in women’s hormones, make you more susceptible to conditions affecting your oral health, including gum disease. You may have gum swelling and pale, shiny, or deep-red gums that bleed easily. It’s important to see a dentist or a dental hygienist if you’re experiencing any unusual changes in your oral health, such as dry mouth, tooth sensitivity, or pain.

I have sensitive teeth, what do I do?

We would recommend you book a dental health exam with one of our team for an assessment as often sensitivity is an early sign of gum disease. We will assess your gums, level of inflammation, gum recession and periodontal pocket depths.

What will happen during dental exam?

During a dental health examination, we will perform soft tissue check including oral cancer screening, assessment of your teeth and gums, and we will take digital radiographs and intraoral photographs if required. We will then discuss our findings with you and formulate a treatment plan.

What will happen at periodontal consultation?

We will assess your gums, levels of inflammation, gum recession and gum pockets with the use of a microscope and then we will have a discussion with you about our clinical findings.

What will happen at orthodontic consultation?

We will assess the alignment of your teeth, the way you bite and how this affects your oral tissues. If required, we may take x-rays.

Are x-rays included in consultation?

Two small x-rays are included in a general dental health examination. For specialist services the consultant may request additional x-rays such as an OPG (Panoramic X-ray) or CT scan (3D image).
